Daniel J. Terceiro
Daniel J. Terceiro, 81, of Cranston RI passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, July 20, 2016 at St. Luke’s Hospital in New Bedford after a long illness. He was the beloved companion for many years of Patricia Dian Smith, who was also his caregiver for the last decade.
Dan was born on October 23, 1934 in Tiverton RI to the late John R. and Laura (Cabral) Terceiro. He is survived by his sons Mark and Gerry, daughter-in-law Amy D. (Stein), grandchildren Mariel A, Daniel J. (DJ), Zachary J., and Kathryn A. Terceiro. He leaves his sister Margaret A. Medeiros and brother Paul E. Terceiro, and was preceded in death by his brother the late Gerald E Terceiro. He also leaves nephew Dean E. Medeiros, niece Deborah L. Medeiros-Monteiro, grand-niece Victoria R. (Souza) August and grand-nephew Xavier E. Monteiro.
After getting his start in the automotive industry in the early 1950’s, Dan soon recognized a need in the marine repair industry and launched a career that would last over 50 years. Dan was the longtime owner and operator of Marine Machinery Service Inc., a marine repair facility specializing in recreational powerboats. He also owned DanTe Yacht Corporation, a boat builder and custom marine fabricator. A highly skilled mechanic and fabricator, he would fix or build anything if he could just “lay my hands on it”. Dan loved fishing, and was a well-known figure in the New England salt water sport fishing community for decades. In his later years, Dan loved watching the Red Sox and Patriots with his companion Pat.
Visiting hours will be held Monday 4-8 p.m. with his funeral service on Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. both at Butterfield Home and Chapel, 500 Pontiac Ave Cranston.
