Jean Titterington 86, of Cranston passed away peacefully on August 17, 2017 at Kent Hospital. Jean was the daughter of the late David and Christina (Mowbray) Titterington. She was preceded in death by her brothers John, David and James Titterington and her sisters Mary T. Walbert, Sophia L. Boss and Alice C. Murray. Jean is survived by many nieces and nephews including nephew Robert D. Murray and his wife Donna. Jean was especially close to her great-niece Kristin Murray who provided her with many years of companionship. Born in Providence, Jean was a 1949 graduate of Mount Pleasant High School. She began work as a legal secretary with the law firm of Chace and Yatman in Providence and spent her career with its successor firms as part of the prominent Providence legal community. Jean was a founding member of the Providence Association of Legal Secretaries (PALS). She dedicated her entire working career to the promotion, education, training and the fellowship of legal professionals. A special daughter, sister and aunt, Jean was proud of her Scottish heritage and enjoyed tracing her family genealogy. After learning to drive at age 50, Jean enjoyed retirement with travel, New York Times crossword puzzles and word search challenges. She was a voracious reader and was a frequent visitor to the Cranston Public Library. Jean’s family expresses their appreciation to the administration, nurses and health care staff of the Coventry Skilled Nursing Center for their care and support of Jean over the last several years.
A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday August 22, 2017 at 10:00am in The Butterfield Chapel 500 Pontiac Avenue Cranston. Burial will follow in the River Bend Cemetery Westerly. Visitation to which relatives and friends are invited will begin one hour prior to the funeral service Tuesday morning beginning at 9:00am. Kindly omit flowers.
