Jason P. "Jay" Gauvin

He was the beloved son of Kenneth C. Gauvin and Candace E. (Williams) Gauvin of Cranston. He leaves two sons; Julien P. and Kingston L. Gauvin of Westminster, Colorado. He was the brother of Kenneth J. Gauvin of Chicago, Illinois. Jason is also survived by two former wives; Kristin Anne Falcone and her son Jayden and Melissa A. Gauvin (Rapp) of Westminster, Colorado.

Jay also had many cousins and friends. His favorite cousin was Dori Graft. His two very close friends were Nick and Jamie. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Jason was a gifted artist. In his younger days, he won numerous awards for Art, BMX racing, Bowling and Cross Country Track. He also played in the Budlong Little League baseball program. He took great pride in his skate boarding skills. He took his skate board everywhere he went. Jay made friends all across the country and abroad. Whether it was on Disney’s “Big Red Boat” or during his travels to New Mexico, Britain, Wales, Ireland, Boston, New York, Connecticut or Colorado, Jay made many life long friends. He left a lasting impression on everyone he met.

Jason was a direct descendant of Roger Williams, the founder of our state and four Pilgrims who had sailed on the Mayflower.

He loved his heavy metal music; for a while he looked like Jon Bon Jovi in his “big hair” days. Jay was also a very talented tattoo artist and was so good he tattooed many other people as well as himself. He occasionally sang in a few metal bands during his journey through life.

He was always polite to older people and helped anyone who asked for his assistance.

He had a great appreciation of the outdoors and was a Cub and Boy Scout. His Mom was his Den Mother.

Jay attended Cranston High School East, Tollgate and CCRI where he studied Commercial Art. He also took some summer art courses at RISD.

Jason was a very sickly baby, in and out of the hospital many times, but he seemed to have nine lives! One time, when he was very young, he fell off a pier while fishing with us and someone jumped in the water to save him. When we asked him why his chin was bleeding, he said a “big fish” got him!

Jason also loved all his pets’-- cats and dogs. He had a very big heart and loved everyone, especially his two sons. He was a huge Patriots fan and an excellent cook.

We are planning a Memorial gathering celebrating his life in the Spring.

Any contributions will help his two boys.

Words cannot express the sorrow everyone feels when an unexpected tragedy occurs, and one cannot fathom when it’s one of your own, when we become parents are children are the most important thing in our lives no matter how old they become. Unfortunately Jadon’s Life ended far too short may both of you find peace in seeing him though Julien, and Kingston as they grow up to become fine Gauvin boys! And don’t worry about Jason I’m sure our grandparents are keeping him busy on the other side.

Janet and Mike - 01/04/2018

Our hearts ache for you. This is such a beautiful tribute!

Kenn Gauvin - 01/04/2018

Jason was a giant who was larger than life itself. He was both magnetic and enigmatic. Many regarded him as an endless source of artistic talent, creativity, and inspiration. He was a dream weaver and a seeker on the path to find out what was unbeknown to others. As his brother, I find comfort in sharing with all that his spirit continues on this path. I believe his afterlife will be a place in our minds and memories where his essence continues to flower. He would've wanted us to remember him this way and therefore spent his mortal life seeding many memories, good and bad, for us to someday pluck from. Jason, thank you for your brotherhood, your love, your humor and your inspiration. I always love you and you'll always be with me. Peace go with you, brother.

It’s been a long time since I’ve seen or spoken to Jay but I do remember his passion for music and art. He used to paint our favorite bands on the back of our Jean jackets. I remember being so proud of the Motley Crue design he painted the back of mine. I have so many great memories of hanging out with Jay and Kenny. My deepest condolences to the Gauvin family. God bless!

I hadn’t spoken to Jay in a long while but in the late 80’s early 90’s we spent a good deal of time together. We were in a band, made films and had great times just hanging out, listening to music and talking about art, music and literature. We had a very memorable trip in which we drove down to the Salvador Dali museum. I’ll always remember Jay’s immense spirit and everpresent charm. My sincere condolences to his family and friends.
