Aniceto J. Fantozzi Obituary

Aniceto “Chip” Fantozzi (78) passed away unexpectedly on January 27, 2025. Born on September 25, 1946, he was the son of the late John Fantozzi Sr and Anna (Pepe). Chip was a lifelong resident of Cranston attending Cranston public schools. He continued his education at Rhode Island College where he received a degree in Secondary Education (Social Studies) and was also a member of the men’s baseball team. He would go on to receive his master’s in education at Rhode Island College. After graduating from RIC, he began his teaching career as a Social Studies teacher at Hugh B Bain Junior High (later Middle School). He would later become the Chairman of the Department and held this position until his retirement after 31 years. After school, depending on the season, you would find him on the basketball court or the baseball field coaching the boy's teams.

During the summer Chip worked for Eastern Construction where he learned to be a stone mason. He became very skilled and would later begin AJ Masonry which kept him busy during school vacations. Chip developed a passion for golf. On the weekend you could find him on various golf courses throughout Rhode Island and Massachusetts especially Crestwood Country Club where he was a member. Chip leaves behind his daughter Kristin DiSpirito, her husband Kevin and grandchildren Matthew and Gianna. He was brother to John Fantozzi Jr and his wife Elaine and Agatha Ford and her husband Dan. He was also Uncle to many official and unofficial nieces and nephews.

As a spectator he loved all sports. He was a die-hard Red Sox fan and his biggest disappointment was that his grandchildren loved the Yankees. He also followed the Boston Celtics, New York Giants and was a longtime season ticket holder to Providence College Men's Basketball.

A Funeral Service will be held for family and close friends on February 1, 2025 at 11:00am in the Butterfield Chapel 1500 Pontiac Avenue Cranston.  Visitation will be held for one hour before the service from 10:00am-11:00am. In lieu of flowers please make donations to the Brian Moretti Scholarship.
