Barbara E. Livezey

Barbara Livezey Obituary

Barbara E. (Swanson) Livezey RN 91, and a lifelong Rhode Island resident, passed away peacefully on December 12, 2023, at Saint Elizabeth Home in East Greenwich.

Born in Providence on March 31, 1932, she was the daughter of Harold and Cora (Crook) Swanson. She grew up in Cranston, graduated Cranston High School (1950), and Rhode Island Hospital nursing school (1953). Barbara and her late husband of 55 years, John "Jack" F. Livezey II settled in Warwick where they raised their family and enjoyed many years boating on Narragansett Bay, at Block Island, and along the southern New England coast. She also loved cruising the Caribbean, reading, and needlepoint. Once her children were older, Barbara returned to nursing at the J. Arthur Trudeau Memorial Center's Early Intervention (EI) program where she spent 25 years working with developmentally delayed children. After retiring they enjoyed several years as summer residents of Snug Harbor. She will be remembered for her unfiltered opinion, compassion, strength, support, and leadership by example. As a long time friend of Bill W she overcame great challenges in life, but with support was able to live it on her terms. When faced with her final challenge, she made her decisions, and passed quietly, again on her terms. While she will be greatly missed, we take comfort in knowing she is at peace.

Barbara is survived by her daughter Barbara Jane Cacciatore and husband Wayne of East Greenwich, son John F. Livezey III and wife Beverly of Kingwood, Texas, grandchildren Stephanie Terrizzi , Erik Cacciatore, Brittany Hart, and Ryan Livezey as well as great-grandchildren, Christa, Christian, Holden, Cameron, Evelyn, Payton, and Jack.

A Funeral Serice will be held on Saturday December 16,2023 at 11:00am in The Butterfield Chapel 500 Pontiac Avenue Cranston. Visitation will be held for two hours prior to the Service beginning at 9:00am. Burial will follow in Quidnessett Memorial Cemetery North Kingstown.
