Donald Cummings Obituary

Donald Edward Cummings 84, of Cranston passed away on Saturday February 27, 2021 at Hope Hospice in Providence after a long illness. He retired from the Narragansett Electric Company after 34 years in the meter department. Born in Providence, Rhode Island  in January of 1937, he was the son of the late Charles F. and Ethel M. (O’Brien) Cummings. Donald is survived by his loving sister Shirley LaBanca of Cranston and will be lovingly missed by his seven nieces and three nephews and was godfather to his niece Maureen Blake. He was also proud of his eight godchildren: Aalaysia, Natoria, Gregory, Styls, Taylor, Knowledge, Amiah and Ora Grey, who are children and grandchildren of Saddie Muskelly. In addition, he was the brother of the late Claire Clancy, Elaine Mack and uncle of the late Gary Mack. Donald joined the Big Brothers Organization in 1972 and was it's longest serving member (41years), as a Big Brother to numerous fatherless boys. He created the Big Brothers Walkathon Charity Walk and served many positions on the Board of Directors. He received the Humanitarian Award (and was basically the heart and soul of the organization) as well as the Big Brother of the Year award. Donald fostered many children from third world countries around the globe. He recently told a visiting Priest “I hope in some small way I have made a difference in this world”... "Well done, well done my friend" was the reply. Donald was the ultimate sports enthusiast, and especially enjoyed the Boston Celtics, New England Patriots and Boston Red Sox. He could recall stats  and players from teams years ago.

“Generosity is the most natural outward expression of an inner attitude of compassion and loving-kindness”.... Dalai Lama XIV  This quote personified Donald.
