Donald S. Silva passed away on September 3, 2023 at the age of 74.
He was preceded in death by his beloved parents Edward Silva and Angelina (Alves) Silva, his dearly loved brother, Robert M. Silva, and his treasured wife of 52 years, Dorothy (Walsh) Silva. He is survived by his devoted children Jennifer (Silva) Brees and Rachel Silva, his dedicated son-in-law Joshua Brees, his beloved grandchildren Fatima and Bernadette, and his dear brother Edward.
Building a strong loving marriage, raising his daughters and being a Vavô to his granddaughters was paramount to Donald. Throughout his life, he was a steadfast, caring man. He was quick to laugh, and that laugh was boisterous and hard-to-miss. Donald also loved music and singing - in the car, in church, at home. During a walk in the park, he once jumped on the hood of a car to serenade the love of his life, Dorothy.
He was a very positive person with a deep commitment to public education and hard work. A Rhode Island College alumnus, Donald was a history teacher for the City of East Providence until his retirement in 2002. For over 30 years, he quietly sacrificed and worked extra jobs to provide for his family on a public-school teacher's salary.
Donald was the most loving and generous person; the depths of his thoughtfulness and dedication to his family were unmatched. Through the years he fought many medical battles to be here with his family. Even during serious health difficulties, he and Dorothy were caregivers to his mother and brother for several years, until it was no longer physically possible. Donald embodied for his girls an enduring commitment, caring for family, and unwavering dedication without complaint.
In his final days, as in life, Donald was surrounded by his family. There aren't words to describe the loss they feel. Memories of his smile, humor, singing, and many lovingly written letters to his daughters console them now.
