It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Edward "Ned" J. Sitler 88 of Cranston on Friday October 27, 2023.
Ned was born in Jamaica, New York in 1935 to the late Edward and Elizabeth (Fitzgerald) Sitler. He also lived in Commack, NY for 29 years before moving to Keene, New Hampshire for 28 years and finally to Cranston.
Ned went to school at St Gerard’s in Hollis Queens, NY and graduated from Brooklyn Technical High School. He received his bachelor's degree from CW Post. Received his CPCU designation in 1987. Ned served as a Staff Sergeant in the United States Air Force Reserves. He was also a devoted member of the Knights of Columbus, the Holy Name Society and faithfully served as an Usher at St Mary’s Church in Providence. Ned was a Claims Director at Allstate Insurance Company on Long Island for 34 years. He also was a Claims Director at Peerless Insurance Company in Keene for 10 years. After his retirement he consulted for Alan Gray Associates and worked for Nissan in Keene and Warwick, Rhode Island. Ned was forever an optimist and was never without a smile. He had a childlike charm that was infectious to those around him and found so much joy in simple everyday events. He was a devout Catholic and found great solace within his faith. He was an adoring husband, father, and grandfather. Aside from spending time with his family, he loved to play golf, take trips to the wineries in Napa Valley, read and listen to classical music, and forever root for the New York Mets.
Ned leaves behind his loving wife Marilyn of 60 years. He was the devoted father of Kathleen Schmal (Roger), Edward (Joan), Maureen Sitler, Eileen Coffey (Andrew), Christine Pulsifer (Gregory) and James (Heather). Beloved grandfather of Casey Fenkart (Gregory), Julianne Sitler, Justin Sitler, Caitlin Coffey, Ryan Coffey, Elizabeth Pulsifer, Ava Pulsifer, Owen Pulsifer, Lillian Severance, Mathew Wright, Cory Wright, and Maggie Wright. His was the brother of Robert Sitler, Rosemary Shima, Maureen Ciano, Theresa McGuire, and the late Daniel Sitler, Eileen Hedlund Gibbons, and Elizabeth Pinto. In addition, he is survived by many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Friday November 3, 2023 from 3:00-8:00pm in The Butterfield Chapel 500 Pontiac Avenue Cranston. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 9:00am in the Church of St. Mary on Broadway 538 Broadway Providence. Burial with Military Honors will be private.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Ned’s memory to Special Olympics of Rhode Island.
