"Jane", as she preferred to be called, died on April 21, 2020 at Cedar Crest Nursing Home in Cranston, Rhode Island. Born in Providence on October 29, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Kenneth J. and Isabel (Macnair) Hovey. With the exception of a year when the family resided in the State of New Jersey, Jane was a Rhode Islander living first in Warwick, then Cranston since 1946. She was a graduate of Cranston High School in 1949 and Pembroke College (Brown University) in 1953.
She enjoyed traveling to Canada, England and Scotland. She worked 33 years for the Telephone Company, first as a service representative, then Business Office supervisor before becoming responsible for her department's budget, a job which was transferred to Boston (to which she commuted daily) for the last 6 years of her working career.
Jane was actively involved in church activities, including being Parish Treasurer, at The Church of the Ascension in Cranston from 1946 until 2008. She was interested in genealogy, as her paternal grandmother was a descendant of early settlers such as Anne Hutchinson. As a result, Jane held membership in The Cranston Historical Society (1351 Cranston Street Cranston, RI 02920) and The Rhode Island Historical Society (121 Hope Street Providence, RI 02906).
At this time, there can be no public visitation of funeral service. A private burial will be held in the North Burial Ground, Providence.
A Memorial Service will be held in The Church of the Ascension 390 Pontiac Avenue Cranston, Rhode Island 02910 at a future date.
Donations in her memory may be made to the Memorial Fund of The Church of the Ascension or either of the historical societies listed above.
