Frances P. Murphy Obituary

Below is a personal message from her son, Sean...

Sunday July 13, 2025 at around 3:00pm Frances Patricia Murphy finally got some rest.

After dealing with cancer and other illnesses throughout the last six months she finally rested. She left the world in the hands of all the children who she had raised and invested in throughout her life.  She always believed in giving people chances and putting them in positions to better themselves. As Director at Washington Park Community Center, she had helped thousands, if not tens of thousands of children throughout over four decades there. She's helped and taken care of thousands of children, if not more, also running a group home as well. She has helped countless numbers of people in Providence, providing knowledge and having difficult talks and conversations for people who would come in for different social services. Frances was a great person; and she knew and expected for all of us to also be great in our lives. Those who were raised in the Community Center know and feel that love....I was happy that many people came to see her within this last week that she had been at the hospital. Seeing faces and hearing voices of people she truly cared about.

Frances Patricia Murphy 74, daughter of Madeline (née Kramer) and Vernard Murphy of Cranston. She was predeceased by her parents, brothers Joseph, William and Ronald Kramer, and nephew Graham Oliver. She is survived by her beloved sisters Mary Oliver (née Murphy), Elizabeth Murphy, Barbara Olivier (née Murphy), and her devoted son Sean J. Murphy.

Visitation to which all are invited to attend will be held on Thursday July 17, 2025 from 4:00-7:00pm in The Butterfield Chapel 500 Pontiac Avenue Cranston.  In lieu of flowers, please make donations in her memory to the Washington Park Community Center 42 Jillson Street Providence, RI 02905.
