Francis B. Geary Jr. Obituary

Francis B. Geary, Jr., 77 of Cranston passed away peacefully at Kent Hospital on Saturday, June 29th surrounded by his loving family.  Frank was born in Providence to the late Francis and Barbara (O’Sullivan) Geary.  He was the brother to Constance Moody (Todd) of Philadelphia and the late Joan Licciardi of Cranston.  He was the beloved husband to Michaela (Reilly) Geary with whom he would have shared their 54th wedding anniversary in August.  He was preceded in death by his daughter Meghan Geary and is survived by his children Colleen Medeiros (Tony), Heather Pearson (Eric), Sean Geary (Julie), Erin Geary (David daFonseca), Brendan Geary (Eleana), and Kevin Geary.  He was the proud Papa to Katherine and Kerry Medeiros, Michaela Pearson, and Cameron, Evelyn, and Ted Geary.  Besides being a father to seven children, he was also a foster parent to many children over the years.  He will be greatly missed by his dog Meg. After graduating from Providence Country Day school, he enlisted and served proudly in the United States Marines.  While aboard the U.S.S. Essex, Frank had the honor of standing guard over the Apollo 7 after its mission. Upon his discharge from the Marines, he attended the University of Rhode Island and CCRI earning a degree in Communications.  He worked as a cable splicer for Verizon Communications for 33 years. Frank enjoyed golfing whenever the skies would allow him to do so.  Being a proud Irishman, one of his greatest experiences was playing golf in Ireland. Over the years he was proudly able to record two holes in one.  Although Frank was a man of few words, he was well known for his quick wit and one liners.  The daily NY Times crossword puzzle was never a challenge for him.  Being an avid New England sports fan as well as a Notre Dame football fan, he attended a Notre Dame game and was amazed by the “Golden Dome”.  One of his proudest moments was the opportunity to coach his son's baseball team and enjoyed taking his sons to Cooperstown.  He loved the outdoors and enjoyed taking his family camping throughout their childhood. You could often find Frank in his favorite chair with either a grandchild or dog on his lap.  He was a communicant of St. Mark Church in Cranston, a member of the Irish Ceilidhe Club of RI and the Knights of Columbus #1738. The family would like to thank Dr. Rubeor, Dr. Cosgrove, Dr. Ferguson, Dr. Kim and her Physician Assistant Karen Steinmetz for the care they provided over the years.  A special thank you to the team members at his dialysis center especially Aishah for taking good care of him.
