It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Francis “Frank” McKenna 74, of Cranston. He died peacefully at Rhode Island Hospital on Wednesday November 8, 2023.
Frank was born in Providence Rhode Island in 1949 to the late Francis and Mary (Sackenheim) McKenna. Frank was a life long resident of Cranston. He graduated from Cranston East and attended Rhode Island College. He worked at Rhode Island Hospital for over 40 years starting in pharmacy and retired from CTIC. He loved working at the hospital and truly loved the friends he made there. He loved to make people laugh. Frank dedicated his life to the hospital and passed away at the hospital knowing he had loving and compassionate friends with him at the end. Frank was a member of the Collie Club of America. He loved showing his Collies. He raised and finished a few champions. He enjoyed his garden, watching all the birds that would come to it, especially the hummingbirds. He enjoyed sitting by his pond and feeding the fish. He loved skiing, going on cruises to the Caribbean Islands. In his younger years he would take his car out to the track to drag race he loved to win but one of Frank’s favorite things to do was to go out to his favorite restaurants.
Frank leaves behind his loving husband David Sherman of 10 years, sister Janice McKenna, brother Gary McKenna and wife Susan, sister in-laws Lori Sackal and husband Mark, Joan Vanover and husband Andy, Barbara Waltonbaugh and husband Doug, nephew Michael McKenna, niece Lia Gomes and husband Christian and great niece Emilia Gomes.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday November 15, 2023 from 4:00-7:00pm in The Butterfield Chapel 500 Pontiac Avenue Cranston.
A Memorial Service will be celebrated on Thursday November 16, 2023 at 10:30am in The Butterfield Chapel 500 Pontiac Avenue Cranston.
