Gloria Ann Martin
Gloria Ann Martin Obituary
Our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, Gloria Ann Martin, died peacefully at her home on July 28, 2024. She was 83. She leaves behind four children, four grandchildren, two great grandchildren, five siblings, and her former husband, now dear friend.
Born in Providence, to Albert and Celia Martin on January 18, 1941 she lived a gloriously dynamic life. She grew up in Olneyville and lived in numerous places throughout Rhode Island and abroad. After extensive travel and experiences, Rhode Island remained her favorite place. She was a fierce lover of music, reading, gardening, biking, and the ocean. The ocean was especially cherished at her family’s beach house at Roy Carpenter’s Beach in Matunuck. Her love for people was palpable and extended to her work comforting patients as a Sleep Technician at the Sleep Center of Rhode Island Hospital. Always independent, Gloria spent her final years enjoying time with family, taking drives to the beach, finding gems at thrift shops, and scouring through every page and crossword puzzle of The Providence Journal and The New York Times.
Visitation will be held in The Butterfield Chapel 500 Pontiac Avenue Cranston on Saturday August 10, 2024 from 1:00-3:00pm. Gloria was a lifelong advocate for human rights and community justice. In lieu of flowers her family welcomes donations to the American Civil Liberty Union at aclu.org.
