James H. Stapleton Obituary
Stapleton, James H. 80, passed following a sudden illness on Sunday May 10, 2026. He was surrounded by his loved ones. He was the beloved husband of Jane (Peck) Stapleton. He was born in Providence and was the son of the late M. Frances (Gallogly) and Raymond V. Stapleton Sr.
He was a graduate of Providence College and the New England Institute of Applied Arts and Sciences in Boston, Massachusetts and since 1985 he resided in Cranston and was the owner and funeral director of the Stapleton Family Funeral Home. He was an avid sports enthusiast, especially for his beloved Boston Red Sox. He adored playing cards with friends on Saturday nights and was happiest spending time with family.
In addition to his beloved wife of thirty-four years, he is survived by three stepchildren: Christine J. (McKearney) Marcotte of Rehoboth, Massachusetts, Gary S. McKearney Jr. of Lubbock, Texas, and Ryan J. McKearney of Dighton, Massachusetts. He also leaves behind ten grandchildren: Brittney, Gianna and Jayde D’Agostino, Noelle, Patrick, Emma, and Miranda McKearney, Tristan Marcotte, Sarah Blaise, and Jared DuBois as well as three great-grandchildren. In addition, he leaves behind nephew Raymond K. Stapleton, nieces Kendra J. Stapleton and Wendy D. (Vest) Hoag; as well as many cousins. He was the brother of the late Raymond V. Stapleton and Frances M. (Stapleton) Vest.
His life will be celebrated with calling hours on Friday May 15, 2026 from 4:00–7:00pm in The Butterfield Chapel 500 Pontiac Avenue Cranston. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday May 16, 2026 at 10:00am in St. George Maronite Catholic Church 1493 Cranston Street Cranston. Burial will follow in St. Ann Cemetery. Donations in lieu of flowers to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital St. http://www.stjude.org would be appreciated.
