Jay Edward Bast, of Cranston, passed away peacefully July 21, 2024 with his beloved family by his side. Jay was the son of the late Marie Thibeault, and the late Roger Cusson of Killingly,  Connecticut. He was the beloved brother to Renee Fitzgerald, John Bast, Robin Hartnett, and Kara Messeck.

Jay also leaves behind his best friend and wife, Michelle Lee Bast. Jay’s legacy of unabashed kindness and carefree desire to live life to the fullest will be most honored in the children he leaves behind: Chantele Rotolo (and Giuseppe Rotolo) of Cranston, Nicole Stevens (and Joseph Stevens) of Warwick, Deanna Kelly of Cranston, Tyler Bast and Jay (aka JJ) Bast of Cranston. He was a loving and dedicated grandfather to Kayley Stevens, Joseph Stevens, Gisele Rotolo, Jordan Dormu, Jayce Stevens, Ethan Rotolo, and Natalia Stevens and a great-grandfather to Alexandria Oxendone. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and cousins and lifelong friends whom he cherished. Jay is pre-deceased by his son Jay Edward Bast Jr. and his grandson Angel Stevens.

Jay was a jack of all trades having worked as an iron worker, a roofer, and a furniture mover. He made friends wherever he went across all walks of life. He was always willing to lend a hand or help someone in need with zero judgment. Jay enjoyed life and enjoyed sharing his passions with those around him. Anyone who met him would inevitably be invited to join him. He loved bonding over a good smoke and conversation. Jay was a rarity- he could be both the life of the party and a solid support when you needed him. He was an avid Boston Red Sox fan.

Jay’s presence was one of stability, solidarity, and joy. Life will not be the same without him. May he rest in peace.

Calling hours will be held on Saturday July 27th from 12:00-4:00pm  with a Funeral Service at 2:00pm in The Butterfield Chapel 500 Pontiac Avenue Cranston.
