Joan Nemirow Obituary

Joan Claire (Murphy) Nemirow, of 15 Hazelton Street Cranston RI, passed away with family by her side at Hope Health Hulitar Hospice Center in Providence, RI on October 21, 2021, after a three-month battle with cancer.  She was 72 years young.

Joan was born on January 4, 1949 to the late William and Helen (Sullivan) Murphy. She was the loving wife of the late Lawrence G. Nemirow.

Joan leaves behind three sons, as well as a large and loving family – Philip of Cranston, RI and his children – Philip, Elicia, John, Corey and his wife Lauren and their children - Olivia and Camden; William of Hollywood, FL and his son - William; and Richard of Middletown, RI and his children – Hunter, Austin, Natasha and Mason.  She also leaves behind her sister Mary, and her late brothers William and Robert.  She is also survived by several loving nieces and nephews as well as several lifelong friends – especially Sheila and Thomas Gostomski.

Joan has been a dedicated employee throughout her life, working at Wal-Mart for 20+ years and Rite-Aid for more than 10 years prior.  She was well liked by her co-workers and was often asked to take on extra work during busy times.  Sometimes it sounded like she was responsible for stocking the entire store!  She was definitely a great friend to whomever she met and would do anything for anybody.

Joan grew up enjoying trips to Martha’s Vineyard with her siblings and parents and passed that love on to her kids and grandkids.  Her trip to the Vineyard with her son and a couple of the grandkids was one of her fondest memories.   A trip to Disney with more of the grandkids was also a great source of stories for her.  Having a private meet and great with Winnie the Pooh and Tigger which was certainly the highlight of that trip!  She enjoyed taking the (grand)kids fishing, for ice cream, and to eat at Iggy’s.  Joan loved attending family events during the holidays, or just for a relaxing backyard cookout.

She had a strong faith that helped her get through her troubles.  Towards the end, she had heartfelt discussions with her Chaplin that gave her permission to let go of any concerns.

Joan did not want a wake, so a pre-funeral gathering will be held Wednesday morning October 27, 2021 from 9:00-11:00am in The Butterfield Chapel 500 Pontiac Avenue Cranston followed by a brief ceremony held at the chapel at Highland Memorial Park Cemetery 1 Rhode Island Avenue Johnston.

In lieu of flowers, Joan requested that donations be made to St Jude’s Research Hospital - https://www.stjude.org/donate/donate-to-st-jude.html
