John McGarrahan Obituary

John B. McGarrahan 91, beloved husband of Arlene (Kirkland) passed on Tuesday January 10, 2023 at Steere House in Providence. A long-time Cranston resident, John was born on July 30, 1932 to John and Madeleine (Donohue) McGarrahan.  John was a graduate of LaSalle Academy and the University of Rhode Island where he was president of Sigma Alpha Epsilon.  He was a Navy veteran of the Korean Conflict and served on the USS Rooks DD804.  John worked for Southern New England Bell and retired from General Dynamics/ Electric Boat at Quonset, RI.
John was a very grateful friend of Bill W. for 45 years.

In addition to his wife, John is survived by his son John and wife Lori, grandchildren Kelsey and Darby of all of Old Saybrook, CT.  He is also survived by his sister, Sister Jane McGarrahan RSM, of Johnston, brothers Fred and wife Pat of Brevard, North Carolina, Peter and wife Alice of Aurora, Colorado, along with many nieces and nephews. 

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his son Patrick, brother Stephen, his wife Debbie, and sisters, Madeleine Maher, her husband Bob, Martha Anderson, Susan Mycroft and husband Don.  

Calling hours for family and close friends of John and Arlene will be held in The Butterfield Chapel 500 Pontiac Avenue Cranston on Tuesday January 16,2024 from 10:00am until 12:00 noon with a Prayer Service at 11:30am.
