Jose G. Duarte, "Joe" 79, of Cranston, passed away unexpectedly on March 28, 2020 at Roger Williams Hospital. He was employed by Leviton Manufacturing for 29 years until retiring in 2005.
Joe was born in Portugal on November 27, 1940 and emigrated to the United States on his birthday in 1967, arriving in Cranston, where he lived for the remaining 52 years of his life. He was the beloved husband of Maria Duarte for 55 years, and together they raised three children: son George Duarte of Narragansett; son Victor Duarte of Las Vegas, Nevada; and daughter Maryellen Yeager of Cranston.
He enjoyed gardening, woodworking, and watching his favorite soccer team, Benfica, but his greatest passion was his family. He was adored by five grandchildren, to whom he was known as “Papa”: Joslyn Yeager, Sofia and Ben Duarte; and Reagan and Reese Duarte.
Burial will be private with a memorial service at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in his name can be sent to St. Mary’s Church, 1525 Cranston St. Cranston RI, 02920.
