Joseph Domenic Oliver “Papa Joe” passed away peacefully on December 31, 2024 at Alpine Nursing Home in Coventry. Born on February 19, 1934 in Providence, he was the son of the late John and Christine (Crowley) Oliver.

Joseph worked for Star Market for thirty-nine years. He began his career as a clerk and later went on to be a store manager in store locations throughout Rhode Island. He was a reserve in the United States Air Force for nine years and a long-standing associate member of the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge No. 7 in Warwick. Upon retiring he spent several years volunteering at McAuley House in Providence and was a faithful parishioner of St. Matthews Church in Cranston.

Joseph is survived by his beloved wife Christine Oliver, sons Joseph (Lora) and Michael Oliver (Bo-Wen); daughters Patricia Howard, Jacqueline Crittenden (Brian) and stepdaughter Taryn McElroy (Sean) as well as seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He was the brother of the late Edward Oliver and grandfather of the late Ryan and Sean Stinger. 

Papa Joe was happiest when surrounded by his family. His kindness was unsurpassed, and his love was endless. He left an indelible mark on the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him and his memory will live on in our hearts forever. 

Visitation will be held on Monday January 6, 2025 from 5:00-7:00pm in The Butterfield Chapel. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday January 7, 2025 at 10:00am in St. Matthew Church Cranston. Burial will be private.
