Joseph Ascoli 93, of Cranston, passed away peacefully at Rhode Island Hospital on Friday March 1, 2024 surrounded by family. Joseph was a loving husband, father, grandfather, friend, and civil engineer.
Joseph is survived by his children: Lisa Persson (Victor), Mary Anne Holland (John), Louis, Stephanie Tallo (Michael), Joseph (Kerran), and Christopher (Becca). He also leaves several grandchildren, Angela, Michael, Victor, Matthew, Alexander, Lily, Quinten, Camden, Maggie, and Mollie. Joseph also leaves behind many cousins, nieces, nephews, in-laws, and other relatives.
Joseph was born on February 09, 1931 in Everett, Massachusetts to the late Louise (Pesce) and Carmine Ascoli. Joseph and Diane lived in Massachusetts until 1963 and have resided in Rhode Island ever since. Joseph graduated from Northeastern University with a major in Civil Engineering. He worked at Narragansett Electric as a Utilities Service Manager for most of his career until retirement at age 62. Joseph was a Korean War Army Veteran.
As a devout Catholic, Joseph’s faith was extremely important to him and was the basis of his core beliefs that he applied to his life and to raising his family. Along with his wife Diane, Joseph volunteered for many charities including food banks, St. Anthony House, Genesis School, Rotary, Volunteers in Cranston Schools, Cranston Historical Society, McAuley House, Co-Workers of Mother Theresa, and other Catholic Charities. Joseph and his wife received many community accolades for their services.
Joseph loved spending time with family, traveling, antiquing, yard sale-ing, and playing slots at the casino. His personal interests included reading, world history, music (opera / classical), collecting coins and antiques, and was an avid news follower (politics / world events).
His grandchildren mean the world to him and spending time with them was his greatest joy.
Visitation will be held on Monday from 4:00-7:00pm in The Butterfield Chapel 500 Pontiac Avenue Cranston. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at 10:00am in the Immaculate Conception Church 237 Garden Hills Drive Cranston. Burial will follow in St. Ann Cemetery Cranston.
