Judith Cahill Obituary

After a 35-year battle with Multiple Sclerosis, which she fought with grace, dignity and courage, Judi succumbed to one of its many complications on 12/31/23. She passed peacefully and painlessly with her husband and oldest child by her side.

Judi was the wife of Jim (James P.) Cahill for 42 years. She was the middle child of Catherine (Gallagher) Liebherr and Edward B. Liebherr. She was a longtime resident of Cranston, RI until 2001 when she and Jim relocated to Rehoboth, MA to an accessible home that she helped design to suit her health needs.

Judi had many interests and hobbies. She looked forward to her favorite art shows, relaxing on the beach with a good book, exploring new restaurants, and she was always open to a new adventure, large or small. She was an avid reader.  She loved to travel, in particular trips to Ireland and Greece. Whether at a concert arena or an intimate Irish pub session, she enjoyed live music. Years after the fact, friends and colleagues of Judi and Jim would rave about their extraordinary parties. She enjoyed life to its fullest and always wore a smile. Her love of creating and sharing beauty was expressed in a variety of ways, from the thriving gardens she designed and planted, to the delicious breads, cakes, pies, and cookies that she lovingly baked for family and friends. She enjoyed life to its fullest and always wore a smile. She was keenly aware of life around us, discovering and cherishing beauty that most would overlook.

Above all, she loved her family with her whole heart. She will be profoundly missed.

Judi is survived by her husband, Jim; their children Tara Liebherr Prescott of Seekonk, Jaime Cahill of Cranston, Mark H. Cahill of Barrington, RI and Erin Cahill of Narragansett, RI: their grandchildren Mark Patrick, Ashlynn, Taylor, Abigail, Catherine, Eli, and Teagan; her nieces and nephews, and her younger brother Richard; family by choice: Donna & Larry Skelton, and beloved friends. She is preceded in death by her parents and her older brother Edward, Jr.

Judi worked for Rhode Island Group Health Association/Harvard Pilgrim Healthcare for 25 years in various capacities. Her final role was Administrative Assistant to multiple Medical Directors and Medical Staff Presidents. In 2000 she had no choice but to retire from the role as the progression of her MS left her unable to work. She truly missed her position, especially the friendships built with colleagues and medical staff, and many expressed that the feeling was mutual.

A private service was held at Butterfield Home and Chapel. In the upcoming months, her friends are welcome to attend a memorial and celebration of her amazing life. Her family asks that in lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.

Friends and family have shared their relationship to show their support.
