Lillian Hargreaves Obituary

Lillian Hargreaves, 93, passed away on June 6, 2020 at St. Antoines Residence in North Smithfield. Lillian was married to her husband William for 75 wonderful years and they could always be found sitting side by side and holding hands.

She was born in Providence, the daughter of the late Laura (Crane) Hoyle and Edward Hoyle. She lived in Cranston for 58 years before moving to Smithfield and North Smithfield.. In addition to her husband William, she is survived by her children, Joan Spreyer of Rehoboth Ma, Linda Cline and her husband Robert of Lewisburg, Pa, William Hargreaves and his wife Diane of North Smithfield, Patricia Abjornson of Thornton NH, Thomas Hargreaves of East Providence and Barbara Spencer of Worcester, Ma.  She is also survived by 14 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.  Lillian was the mother of the late David Hargreaves, sister of the late Florence Roux and great grandmother of the late Zachary Michael Sousa.

Lillian was a graduate of Central High School and after raising her 7 children began working in the Plant Operations department at Brown University as an administrative assistant.  After retiring she and her husband Bill could be found working alongside her late son in law Bill Spreyer and daughter Joan in their garden center greenhouses transplanting mums, watering plants and making Christmas bows and arrangements.  She was also active in her church, The Church of the Ascension where she served on the Vestry and the Altar Guild for many years. She loved to crochet, cross stitch and bake but what she loved most was being with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was her happiest when surrounded by her husband and family.

At this time funeral services and burial must be private.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Rhode Island Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association or to the Memorial Fund of The Church of the Ascension.
