Lillian Marion (Foisy) Young passed away peacefully on Thursday June 5, 2025 at Overlook Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Pascoag. Born on April 8,1936, Marion was 89 years old. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandma, and great-great-grandma. She was a sister and a friend who was known for her unconditional love, kindness, generosity, humor, and her smile.
Marion was married to the love of her life Donald R. Young on April 10,1954 after a 1-year courtship and spent 72 years by his side. Her parents were Joseph Albert and Lillian Celia (Stapleton) Foisy formerly of Cranston.
Marion grew up in Cranston and spent 24 years as a US Air Force wife living in Washington, DC, England, Kansas, the Philippines, and Virginia. She returned to Cranston in 1978 and worked as the Emergency Road Service Supervisor at AAA of Southern New England for 18 years. Marion earlier worked as an in-home day care provider and a printing press operator. In Kansas, she was a Girl Scout Leader, Sunday School teacher, and member of the PTA. She was a Red Cross and Family Services volunteer while in the Philippines. She has been an active member of the Church of the Ascension in Cranston for 47 years where she was a Sunday School teacher, member of the Altar Guild, a licensed Lay Reader, and Chalice Bearer.
In 2001, Marion and Don retired to travel in their RV. Together, they have visited every US state except North Dakota. She loved camping and traveling but valued family and time with her grandchildren the most. She also enjoyed organizing and coordinating the Beavers-Young family reunion every year at Claytor Lake State Park in Dublin, Virginia where she and Don volunteered together as camp hosts for 23 years. During summers in Virginia, they were snowbirds at Christ Church in Pulaski, Virginia.
Besides her husband Donald, Marion is survived by her son Donald R. Young and wife Nhaty of Wichita Falls, Texas, daughter Donna Yeadon and husband Wayne of Chepachet, and Island Pond, Vermont, son Jay Young and husband Daniel Franco of Oakland, California, and Brother Kevin Foisy and wife Donna of Chepachet as well as seven grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, and a great-great-grandson. Marion was preceded in death by her brother Joseph Foisy Jr., daughter Sheryl Ann Young, parents Joseph and Lillian, and granddaughter Krystal Young Skaggs.
Visiting hours will be Monday, June 16, 2025 from 4:00-7:00pm in The Butterfield Chapel 500 Pontiac Avenue Cranston. An 11:00am Funeral Service and Holy Eucharist will be held Tuesday June 17, 2025 in The Church of the Ascension 390 Pontiac Avenue Cranston.
The family recommends a gift in lieu of flowers to the American Cancer Society or The Church of the Ascension Memorial Fund.
