Norma G. Cheek 94, of Cranston a fashion illustrator and water-color artist, passed away on Tuesday June 21st after a short illness at Hope Hospice in Providence. She was the beloved wife of Blaine G Cheek.
Born in Providence, she was the daughter of the late Theresa W. (Gustafson) Thomas and Richard Anderson Sr. She received her art training at the Rhode Island School of Design. Norma’s professional career started in department stores in Providence as a fashion artist, and a free-lance artist for boutique shops. After retirement, she found her love in water-color painting. This included children’s portraits, using folk-art style as well as ocean scenes. Her work was on exhibit at the Wickford Art Gallery, the Cranston Library and the Maritime Provinces in Canada. Norma was a life-time member of the Wickford Art Association and volunteered her time at the Gallery.
She leaves a daughter Natalie J. Wells of Warner, New Hampshire, a granddaughter Kimberly J. Smeals and her husband Joseph of Coventry, a grandson Scott P. Lapinski of Newport and two greatgrandchildren Bradley and Alexis Smeals. She was the sister of the late Richard W. Anderson Jr.
A Funeral Service will be held on Sunday June 26th at 5:30pm in The Butterfield Chapel 500 Pontiac Avenue Cranston. Visitation will be held before the Service from 4:00-5:30pm. Burial will be in Stellarton, Nova Scotia Canada. Kindly omit flowers.
