Phyllis Cornell Obituary

Phyllis A. (Nelson) Cornell 83, of Cranston, passed away peacefully at home on April 28, 2020.  She was the wife of the late Mason Robert Cornell with whom she shared 30 wonderful years until his passing in 1988. She lived her entire life in the same home.   Phyllis was the daughter of the late Harold & Gladys (Williams) Nelson.  Phyllis always said "I was born in this house and I will die in this house", and that she did. She attended Cranston High School and then went on to Roger Williams School of Nursing where she graduated as a Registered Nurse.  Phyllis worked at Kent Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Warwick and retired after 23 years in 2001. On September 23, 1958 she married her one and only true love, Mason Robert Cornell.  After Mason passed away in 1988 she always said "I've had the best, I will never find another like him so why bother looking". Phyllis volunteered as a Sunday School Teacher, Camp Fire Girls & Bluebird leader.  She was an excellent cook and she could bake just about anything.  She enjoyed all of her gardens and you would find her bent over tending to them from April to October. One of her favorite pastimes was counted cross stitching and she made numerous Christmas stockings for the ones she loved.  She was an avid sports fan, loved those Bruins.  She enjoyed watching her son and grandson play hockey and her two granddaughters play basketball & softball.  She was their true fan and supporter. She leaves her children, Diane Cornell Salisbury, Janice Cornell Lane (David) and Robert Mason Cornell (Catherine).  She was the grandma to Kevin Joseph Salisbury, Caitlyn Patricia Cornell and Rachel Lauren Cornell.  Phyllis also leaves her brother Glen E. Nelson and was the sister of the late Shirley (Nelson) Jones of Dresden, Maine.  She also leaves many nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, she requested donations be made to Hope Health Hospice Center. Her funeral will be private
