Raymond A. Maxwell Jr. 65, unexpectedly passed away at his home in Cranston on June 10, 2023. Ray was a titan, a man who wore his heart on his sleeve. Ray was a man who would face the devil if needed for his family and friends, then ask God for forgiveness. He was a man who would sacrifice without a second thought; he was a man with a harsh tongue at times but a warm heart always. A man who left a positive impact on so many.
Ray was born in Central Falls on July 15, 1957 to Yvonne and Raymond Maxwell Sr. Ray grew up in Pawtucket, RI with his parents and his younger brother James “Jim”. Ray played both soccer and hockey during his school years and participated in a men’s softball league for many years as an adult.
Ray was a graduate of Davies Technical High School and the New England Institute of Technology. He spent many years working for Winn Residential and Fairfield Residential as their Regional Service Manager, where he regularly orchestrated fun events for those communities and led volunteer food drives to benefit RI’s homeless.. Ray was also the owner and operator of Maxwell Contracting, LLC for 20+ years, where he turned peoples houses into their dream homes. In his retirement Ray followed his passion and began Maxwell’s Fine Handcrafted Woodworking, where he made a variety of items by hand. His passion for woodworking was clearly evident in the time and care he took to make each individual item.
Ray is survived by his mother, Yvonne (Bettey) Maxwell, his brother James Maxwell, the mother of his children Dawn-Marie (Camille) Maxwell (with whom he spent 45 years), his daughter Kenzie Maxwell and her wife Brandice Balschmiter, his son Taylor and his wife Jeanette (Jorge) Maxwell, his two granddaughters Avalyn and Briella whom he fondly referred to as “Munchkin” and “Pumpkin” and his partner Kathy Proctor Pacheco (with whom he resided). Ray was preceded in death by his father, Raymond A. Maxwell Sr.
Visitation will be held on Friday from 10:00am-12:00 noon. A Memorial Service will immediately follow at 12:00pm.
