Rick Gebhart Obituary
Rick Gebhart 72, of East Greenwich passed away peacefully on February 14, 2025. Born on January 29,1953 he was the son of the late Grace (Pantalone) Sarcione and step-son of the late Felix Sarcione. He was the beloved husband of 45 years to Alice (Benvie) Gebhart, father of Christine Mandese (Justin), Erica Albert (Gary), Nick Gebhart (Kristin), grandfather of Christian, Collette, Iris; and brother of Vince and Paul.
Rick, a LaSalle Academy graduate, was raised by an independent Italian mother who helped shape his sense of resilience and strong sense of family. He grew up breaking down boxes at his grandfather’s store Vincent’s - a children’s specialty clothing store on Federal Hill. This helped provide a foundation of family loyalty with a strong work ethic.
Inspired by his family's entrepreneurial spirit, he later co-founded Wonderland Early Learning Center and Western Cranston Learning Center in Cranston with his wife Alice. Rick would later serve as a guidance counselor at Cranston High School East for many years, again with his wife Alice an art teacher.
Rick was a lifelong runner and enjoyed racing alongside family members, especially the annual “Blessing of the Fleet” in Narragansett. Arriving before the starting line was even drawn, he could be heard cracking dad jokes and cheering on fellow runners. An esteemed baritone of the North Kingstown Community Chorus, he brought great joy to audience members and fellow chorus members alike with his theatrical performances in special skits and as emcee.
An avid sports fan, Rick proudly supported the New York Giants despite the influence and pressure of local Patriot fans. Attending games was a cherished family tradition during which you could be sure to hear him yell “Run the ball!”
Rick was loyal, kind and put his family above everything. His extraordinary memory for key details about others enabled him to forge countless meaningful connections with everyone he encountered. Rick had a calm and solid spirit, always bringing humor and heart to the people around him. His selfless nature was seen in his commitment to home, love for his wife, children, grandchildren, extended family, and even for his four King Charles cavalier spaniels.
