Robert Barrett Obituary

Robert M. Barrett 94, passed away Saturday June 4, 2022 at Rhode Island Hospital from complications with pneumonia.

Born July 16, 1927 in Providence, Bob was the youngest and favorite child of Coleman and Mary (Greene) Barrett. He was predeceased by siblings Joseph F., Mary C., Coleman H., and William M. Barrett. Bob joined the Marines following his graduation from LaSalle Academy and spent the later part of 1945 and 46 guarding Bermuda where he developed a lifelong love of the beach. Upon his return home, he started a career in Banking at the former Industrial Trust (later Fleet) where he served in a variety of roles until his retirement in 1995 as manager of credit cards. Bob remembered fondly the good people and customers that he worked with through the years. Working at the bank resulted in his real career when he met the love of his life, his wife Eloise with whom he spent 63 happy years.

While not having children of their own, Bob and Eloise took in neighboring children and later grandchildren into a warm extended family. Bob and Eloise maintained a photo collection of their various “children” and tracked their progress. Bob and Ellie also shared their love of the beach in South County RI and Longboat Key FL. Bob maintained lifelong fitness by walking miles every day both to and from the bank, and throughout his retirement. He will also be fondly remembered as an avid golfer and convertible aficionado. Bob is survived by nieces Mary Chatel, Ellen Barrett, Ann Barrett, Marita Barrett, Denise Coviello, Debra Hundley, nephews Kevin Barrett and Mark Barrett, and ‘adopted’ nephews Chez Her, Ter Her, and David Ventutolo. Bob was pre-deceased by his niece Madonna Nolan and his nephew Joseph Barrett.

The family wants to thank neighbors Richard and Kim Bouchard and Lynn and Brian O’Malley for their kindness and generosity to Bob, especially since Ellie’s passing in 2017. We are indebted to Dawn Ventutolo for her care and attention to Bob.

Visitation will be held Sunday June 12, 2022 from 4:00-6:00pm in The Butterfield Chapel 500 Pontiac Avenue Cranston.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday June 13th, 2022, at 10:00am at St Matthew Church 1299 Elmwood Avenue Cranston. Burial with military honors to follow at Pawtuxet Memorial Park Cemetery, Warwick.
