Roland Medeira Obituary

***UPDATED FUNERAL INFORMATION LISTED BELOW***

After a long and brave battle with increasingly complicated medical issues, Roland Medeira, 73 years of age, died peacefully at Rhode Island hospital in Cranston, RI on Thursday 17th February 2022. The eldest son of Manuel Medeira and Stella (Noronha) Medeira, Roland was born in Mumbai, India on June 20th, 1948. He lived with his family in Mahim, Mumbai, before moving to Rhode Island, USA in July 2021.

After a whirlwind romance in 1975, Roland married the love of his life Odil (D’Souza) Medeira, and together raised their children Natasha (Medeira) Price and Aquil Medeira at their home in Mumbai.  Roland and Odil spent the last few months in their new home in Cranston, Rhode Island enjoying the company of their son and his family, especially his three American grandchildren. The quintessential family man, being around his children and grandchildren was all Roland hoped for. His move to America, just eight months ago, fulfilled this wish and he simultaneously remained faithfully involved in the lives of his four grandchildren in Yorkshire, England. Roland loved to travel, spreading his wings early in life as In-Flight Supervisor with India’s national carrier, Air India.  After more than thirty-five years with the airline, Roland retired but continued to work in the travel industry.  As a member of St. Michael’s parish, in Mahim, Mumbai, Roland spent many years helping local children strive for a better quality of life.  Along with travel, Roland was passionate about education and food - but above all, his life revolved around his family. When he was not working, Roland spent time with his wife and children – sharing educational games, historic films, sporting activities and amazing food. He loved music, family get-togethers, dancing, impromptu singing, and heated debates.

Roland was also loving father-in-law to Nick Price and Laura (Heelon) Medeira and doting grandfather to Barrie, Antonia, Emilia, and Rehaan Price; and Azarel, Eden and Zion Medeira. He was the caring eldest brother of Rudolph/Geraldine Medeira, Renee/Alfie D’Souza, Gloria Medeira and Jovie Medeira.
He was precious Opa to Lyn Rhea D’Souza.
