Shirley A. Balentine 95, passed away peacefully on Tuesday February 11, 2025 at The Palace Gardens in Homestead, Florida. Born January 7, 1930 in Providence, Shirley was the daughter of the late Frank H. and Mae E. (McCloskey) Balentine and sister of the late Inez M. (Robert) Bisbee.

Shirley loved to spend time with her immediate family, her church family, and her neighbors near her home in Cranston. In 1951, she started working as a typist for Amica's Claims Department. After 17 years, in l968 she transferred to the Accounting Department as a collection clerk. One year later, her title was changed to accounts clerk, and she was promoted to bookkeeper in 1979. She was named a junior accountant in 1980. On her retirement day in 1992, she said "In 41 years at Amica, I have enjoyed my work and have made some wonderful friends, who I will miss very much, but we will keep in touch and meet for lunch often.”

Her hobbies included walks on the beach, teaching Sunday school, gardening, baking, embroidery and volunteering at Waterman Elementary School. She will be always remembered for her welcoming smile, perfect hairstyle and tiny feet. She enjoyed spending vacations at her family cottage in Charlestown, RI on Quonochontaug Beach, where she also survived and witnessed many hurricanes, including hurricane Carol in 1954.

Survivors include her two nephews, Brian C. (Donna) Bisbee of Homestead, FL, Kevin A. (Alma) Bisbee of Glenville, NY; and one niece, Holly Bisbee of Kansas City, MO.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday July 12, 2025 at 10:00am in The Butterfield Chapel 500 Pontiac Avenue Cranston. Burial will follow in Pawtuxet Memorial Park Warwick.
