Toni Thompson Harrison Obituary
Toni Thompson Harrison died peacefully of ALS at the age of 77 on April 3, 2019. She was the daughter of the late George Henry and Gertrude (Clark) Thompson, sister of the late Patricia (Thompson) McQueen, and was also predeceased by her husband Charles Albert Harrison Jr. Toni was a devoted wife, mother, aunt, Nana and friend. She is survived by her children, Kath Whelan with Eric Boyle, Timothy Whelan with Rachel Bodner, Lindsay Harrison with Jamie Jacques, Louise Joyce, her husband Mark, and Cynthia Ottilige and her husband George. She is also survived by her seven grandchildren Matthew Joyce, Lauren Joyce Opeil and husband Bryant, Katherine Joyce and husband Will Townsend, Jennifer Ottilige Martel and husband Josh, Andrea Ottilige, Thea Whelan with Derek Hackett, and Chloë Whelan. In addition, she is survived by her great-grandsons Orion and Julian Martel, and well as many beloved nieces, nephews and friends. Toni was a devoted Anglican, passionate gardener, avid reader and foodie. Over the years her love of theater, history and genealogy informed her jobs as a cemetery manager for an historic cemetery and as a professional floral designer trained in England. All who knew her knew her as an Anglophile! She loved new experiences - getting her first tattoo at 76 years old! Over the years as a congregant, she volunteered as a choir member, organized alter guilds, floral guilds, and volunteered where needed for each parish in which she was a member. She was loved by all who knew her and was a blessing in the lives of many. Toni's motto, borrowed from Hunter S. Thompson (perhaps a relative?) was... "Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming Wow!" Toni's Funeral Service will be held on Saturday April 27, 2019 at 2:00pm in The Church of the Redeemer 655 Hope Street Providence. A reception will follow in the parish hall. The Rev. Patrick Campbell will officiate at the service. All are welcome to attend and celebrate the life of Toni T. Harrison. The family would like to thank Hope Hospice , the staff at the Phillip Hulitar Hospice Center and the Butterfield Home and Chapel for making the arrangements with care and dignity. Memorials and donations may be made to the ALS Foundation
